class 1 (7/07–7/11) 9th-12th graders

class 2 (8/11–8/15) 6th-8th graders

Class 1 (7/07-7/11): Poetry for Rising 9th-12th graders

Students in this class will develop their craft and explore poetry as correspondence through reading and writing epistolary poems. With a focus on imagery, sound, and structure, they will experiment with writing in a range of poetic styles including prose poems and sonnets, as well as with creating poems from their own or others’ letters.  They will receive granular and developmental feedback on their creative work, personalize a revision process, and build community with fellow students.

Class 2 (8/11–8/15): Poetry for Rising 6th-8th graders

Students in this poetry class will develop their poetry toolkits and write poems in the form of letters written to a range of subjects of their personal choosing. Students will explore writing in a variety of poetic forms including erasure poems, persona poems, and odes. Students will learn about poets who have used their own personal letter-writing practices as a way of generating and finding material for poems.
