Hemingway Foundation Student Scholarship (Juniors Only)

Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park (EHFOP) sponsors an annual Hemingway Foundation Student Scholarship Essay Contest. This competition, which is based on a 300-600 word essay on a given prompt, is open to all juniors in conjunction with their english division at the following high school districts (D200 Oak Park-River Forest, D201 Berwyn-Cicero/Morton, D208 Riverside-Brookfield, D209 Proviso Township and D401 Elmwood Park). The top three finalists chosen are included in our annual Hemingway Shorts literary journal publication. The first place award recipient receives a $1,500 college scholarship (administered through the Hemingway Foundation) and a writing mentorship with the Foundation's Writer-in-Residence during their senior year at high school.

Only high school Juniors at the above designated school districts are eligible. You must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.5 to apply.

Allan O. Baldwin Memorial Student Scholarship (Seniors Only)

In 2020, a new memorial scholarship has been established in memory of former Hemingway Foundation Chairman and past Treasurer, Allan O. Baldwin. This scholarship is awarded through an essay competition, which is based on a 300-600 words on a given prompt, is open to all seniors at the following high school districts (D200 Oak Park-River Forest, D201 Berwyn-Cicero/Morton, D208 Riverside-Brookfield, D209 Proviso Township and D401 Elmwood Park). The chosen award recipient will be included in our annual Hemingway Shorts literary journal publication and receive a $1,500 college scholarship, administered through the Hemingway Foundation.

Only high school Seniors at the above designated school districts are eligible. The previous year’s Hemingway Scholarship junior award recipient is not eligible for this scholarship. You must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.5 to apply.
