As part of our ongoing series Hemingway in the 21st Century, Dr. Michelle Moore joins us to discuss her book, Chicago and the Making of American Modernism: Cather, Hemingway, Faulkner, and Fitzgerald in Conflict.
Dr. Moore considers the connection between famed twentieth century writers and Chicago and the extent to which their surroundings affected their art. The book, now available in paperback, contains new revelations and insights about these often read and well-known novelists and their works. A close study of Chicago area history reveals both personal and professional influences, including an exploration of Hemingway’s relationship to Oak Park, the early Social Justice movement, and architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
Michelle E. Moore, Ph.D. is Professor of English at the College of DuPage and serves as a board member of the Hemingway Foundation.
This discussion will be moderated by Laura Young, author, English Teacher and current Writer in Residence at the Hemingway Foundation.
