EHFOP honors students for the 2021 Hemingway Foundation OPRF Scholarship & Allan O. Baldwin Memorial Scholarship Contests
The Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park is pleased to announce the overall recipient and two finalists for the essay competitions for Hemingway Foundation OPRF Scholarship and the second recipient of the Allan O. Baldwin Memorial Scholarship for 2021..
In 2016, the Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park, with the help of the OPRFHS English Department and the OPRFHS Scholarship Fund, re-introduced the Hemingway Foundation Scholarship for junior level students, with the intent of discovering and fostering writing talent at Hemingway’s alma mater. The overall winner receives a $1,000 college scholarship award and a mentorship with the Foundation’s writer-in-residence during their senior year at Oak Park-River Forest High School.
We are pleased to name Lev Working as the recipient of the 2021 Hemingway Foundation Scholarship for his excellence in writing with his submission of “Oak Park Doesn’t Kill Its Writers”. We would like to also recognize Edward Ruppar and Megan Chyna as our two scholarship finalists.
In addition, this is second year of our newer scholarship for senior students in memory of our former chairman; the Allan O. Baldwin Memorial Scholarship includes a $1,000 college scholarship award. We are delighted to announce Beckett Green as its second recipient for the outstanding work, “Life is an Adventure”.
Each of these students’ essays will be included in our sixth annual edition of Hemingway Shorts and we hope to recognize these four students at a forthcoming Hemingway Foundation event.
These scholarship initiatives reflect the Foundation’s belief in the importance of the written word and the value of thoughtful reading and writing.
